A New Day

During the fall and winter months, many of us hit a wall. I’m not ruling out a physical wall, as I know that there are some people that quite literally run into walls, but the mental one.

We all have our rough days, that’s for sure. At times those rough days can be viewed as completely negative and we forget to realize just how many positives there were around us. We were too focused on the bad and not the good. The question becomes, how do we get over those though?

Let me just start out by saying that I recently had a crummy day. Just seemed like everything that happened that day went the wrong way. It’s easy to get caught in that negative loop. I can tell you one thing though. I woke up the next day with a different kind of energy. Was there a lingering effect of the past day? Absolutely. There will always be a small part of your mind that will be thinking about what happened the day before. However, I woke up grateful.

You know what the best part of today is? It isn’t yesterday, nor is it tomorrow. It is simply the next page in the chapter.

Everyday is a new day that I am thankful to wake up and breathe in that first breath. Don’t ever take that for granted. I know we get into the cliche saying, “it’s fresh”. You know what? It is in a sense. Whatever happened the day before is behind us and will always be behind us. Whatever is ahead of us will be there until we eventually come to it. We shouldn’t worry about either, as it is either old news or something that isn’t truly guaranteed.

The way I look at it is that each day will have its good and bad. We just have to be willing to accept that with every positive, there is a negative somewhere, but how you react to the negative is the biggest point in the day. Staying positive is key. Each day offers opportunity. The chance to make new decisions, try new things, talk to new people and to maintain the positives that you already have.

I was reminded by a past version of myself today that even at the worst times, never give up.

“Having a bad day? Put your hand over your heart… You feel that…? It’s called purpose. Let it motivate you.”

The past version of me always knows when to come out of the woods with a random saying that will floor me. Like… it’s like this time of year can be negative or something.

I just want to pass along one little piece to you all (and the future me). Come into each day with a fresh mind and prepare for a fresh start. Take the perspective that the new day is all you have and you have the chance to make it the way you want. Approach everything with a positive outlook and keep doing and being the best you can. With all that on your side, no one is going to stop you from achieving your goals.
